RETIRED C-LEVEL MARKETING AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS EXECUTIVE NOW DOING PASSION WORK DEVELOPING AND SUPPORTING THE NEXT WAVE OF LEADERS.
I was born and raised in Buffalo, New York—a heritage I wear with pride.
To this day, I am thankful for the many mentors and role models this city has provided me—people whose quiet dignity taught me important lessons about integrity and excellence, two values that are now ingrained in everything I do.
My career has gone through hills and valleys, and I learned a lot as I made my way up to the C-suite positions I held for over 17 years. The teams I led in those roles garnered everything from local to national recognition for their work, but my proudest achievements involve the talent I’ve helped develop and the teams I’ve helped build. There is nothing more satisfying than seeing an individual or group accomplish more than they ever thought possible. It’s what earned my teams the highest leadership and employee engagement scores year after year.
Through it all, I’ve learned that leadership is a huge responsibility. If you do not lead others well, then you are responsible for their failure. It doesn’t take a college degree, MBA, or PhD to know this. You just need to care and then commit.
I am now retired from the corporate world to do my passion work: helping individuals and teams succeed and grow. My goal is to do more than just help them support a company’s mission, vision, and values; I want them to become important leaders and mentors to others.
To share what I’ve learned over the years, I wrote Fish Rot from the Head Down: Stories and Lessons about Leadership. Each volume is comprised of 25 chapters of 50 words or less and is followed by probing questions and plenty of space to write, work, and reflect. The books are the foundation for the talks and workshops, which have been tailored to help strengthen and support those moving up the ladder.
I welcome you to take some time to wander my simple site. I hope it inspires you to engage me to help your company—and you—go from good to better to great!

“Gretchen is exceedingly bright, is both a strategic and critical thinker, is driven, and possesses a passion for excellence that is rarely experienced. The insight that she injects in any conversations adds an incremental and influential dimension to the thought process that would be absent if not for her presence in the room.”
Stuart Angert, former President and CEO,
Remarketing Services of America, Division of Daimler-Benz
“Every morsel offered in this wonderfully rich book should be eagerly consumed. You’ll be tempted to do so all at once—it’s that compelling. But take time to savor every page—the wisdom within is so good, so satisfying, so useful for emerging leaders or seasoned leaders who appreciate that there is always more to learn. Read it, digest it, live it!”
